    1. I have this Alcoholic acquaintance who could otherwise be a friend if it were not for his personal dental hygiene. I do not consider personal hygiene optional.

In fact, he is otherwise quite intelligent, kind, open-minded, and has a great personality.

Although, I often find myself cringing when I speak to him, breathing far less than I otherwise would, and even feeling that Alcoholic/Addict resentment regarding his obliviousness or lack of awareness as to how his lack of personal hygiene impacts my sensitivities, not to mention sensibilities.

I suppose my part is that I am superficial, controlling, and intolerant. It is none of my business whether or not he adequately brushes his teeth or whether he has halitosis.

Also, my part is that I have this expectation that he should have the same dental hygiene standards that I have.

I have two options: tolerate it because he has other redeeming qualities, or move on, diplomatically.
