What is LSD?

LSD [Lysergic Acid Diethylamide] is a man-made drug that is often used for its hallucinogenic effects. Its origins date back to the 1960’s and since that time it has been found to be illegal. According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, it has no legitimate medical purpose. Common street names for LSD are back-breaker, pane, battery acid, window pane, doses, acid, superman, boomers, dots and yellow sunshine. There are a host of effects associated with using LSD, many of which are often unpredictable and turn on dosage, mood of the user, his personality and the location of his surroundings. LSD users have routinely felt as if they were experiencing insanity, mania, despair and even death. Flashbacks are typical of the LSD user, at which time, effects of prior usage recur. It is not uncommon for chronic LSD users to become schizophrenic, psychotic or clinically depressed. LSD is not classified as an addictive substance, meaning that usage does result in habit-forming behavior as in the case of heroin or methamphetamine usage. Although, tolerance is not likely to remain the same in that to experience further hallucinogenic effects the user must progressively increase the amount taken at each successive using time.
