French Toddlers Taken Into Care With ‘Chronic’ Cocaine Habits

Last week, Parisian police arrested a couple on charges of supplying their two kids with cocaine, after their daughter was treated at a local hospital for convulsions.  Their daughter is 2 and half, while their son is only 4 years old.  The parents are considered upstanding Parisian citizens; the father is a pharmacist and the mother is senior manager of a supermarket chain who graduated from one of France’s top universities.

According to The Week, the 2 and a half year old toddler was admitted to the hospital before for convulsions.  When medical staff finally took a urine sample, they were astonished to find traces of cocaine in her system.  Then, they analyzed her hair, to find that the level of cocaine in her hair was on par with that of ‘chronic cocaine use for over a year.’  Similar findings were discovered in her brother’s hair sample, as well as exposure to crack cocaine.

The father admitted he is a recreational cocaine user, and he and his wife adamantly argue they did not give their children cocaine. They have no explanation how the substance got there.  The couple has been released on bail, while more medical investigation is conducted.  The children are being cared for by local authorities, and they have been denied access to their parents.
