Colin Farrell Once Feared Sobriety Would Take His Acting Ability

Before he entered treatment in December of 2005, actor Colin Farrell feared that drinking and drugging helped him to be a better actor.  According to AZCentral.com, Colin admits that he once believed that his substance abuse was pivotal to his career.  He said, “I was terrified of being sober because, I’m not saying I was a great actor before or a great actor since, but I was terrified that whatever my capacity was as an actor beforehand, however little or large-it would completely disappear.  I subscribed to the notion that to be able to express yourself in an artistic form in life, you had to live in perpetual pain, and it’s nonsense.  There is enough pain in the world.”

The father of two has since replaced his alcohol and drug driven hours with spinning and yoga.  Now, he realizes that he has more fun in life without substance use.  He explained, “Seven years sober.  I’m really grateful.  It’s really lovely to be present in my life.”
