Police arrested two 18-year-old parents after responding to reports of child neglect and finding cigarette burns and marijuana residue on their 7-month-old son's blanket. According to News-register.net, the child was born with narcotics in his system, and he suffers from severe health issues. He is unable to eat or drink because his digestive system does not function properly. He also has multiple tubes connected to his tiny body to provide him with essential fluids and nutrients.
The boy had an extended stay in a Pittsburgh hospital after his birth and was given to Pennsylvania child protective services because of the presence of narcotics in his system. The young parents eventually regained custody.
Officers executed a search warrant on the couple's residence, where they found an ashtray full of cigarette butts and evidence that the couple used marijuana in their son's presence. The court charged the couple with felony charges of neglect, as well as possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The parents remain in police custody, and the child was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital following the arrest. The child's condition is still unknown.
