Happy New Year 2013

Yes, it is that time of year again. It is time to begin again, to start off fresh, and to wipe the slate clean!

New Year's resolutions are being written, inventories are being taken and many people are gaging whether or not they are better off today than they were this time last year.

I am not sure about you, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I am, all because I was willing! Yes, this year was challenging but it was equally amazing, if not more! Thank you Higher Power!

Nevertheless, as we know, for addicts and alcoholics, particularly those in active addiction, the past can be filled with regret as we consider what has been lost, put in jeopardy or not accomplished due to our addiction.

Well, put it all behind you and get out a pen and paper because I have an assignment for you.

My sponsor passed it down to me and I am passing it down to you.

Step One: Think of everything you want, BIG and small, as the sky is the limit.

Step Two: Write down everything you want, particularly those things you want in 2013…..they can be spiritual or tangible.

Step Three: Burn the paper before New Year's Day.

Burning the paper that list everything you want in 2013 is a symbolic gesture of faith and letting go.

You are giving your requests to your higher power and letting him or her handle the results, knowing that you will get what you want.

With that said, some of you might want the strength to leave that significant other who is nothing but dead weight, others want new homes, new cars, or more money.

Meanwhile, there are those of you who want to expand your family, with a child or more children……I think I am here! Others want to find the love of their lives or maybe just date more. And, still there are those of your who want to quit abusing alcohol or drugs. Just write it down, and don't forget to burn it!!

According to my very successful sponsor, it is all possible!

No more holding back. This is the time to live your BEST sober life!! Happy New Year everyone!
