Tim McGraw Sobriety

Three years ago Tim McGraw finally decided to give up excessive alcohol drinking, once and for all.

"I think it's a personal choice - when it gets to the point where you think it's affecting you adversely and it's affecting your relationships, it's time to make a change….. I thought it was time."

McGraw’s alcoholism and partying began to cause problems in his marriage to the equally talented and occasional touring mate, Faith Hill. For years they had an acrimonious relationship due to McGraw's alcoholism and although they presented a united front, they were living apart on their sprawling estate.

Meanwhile, as the relationship with Hill was souring, Tim knew it was time to quit. Consequently, he sought treatment for his alcoholism and has been sober since.

He insists that not only did he do it for himself, but he wanted to save his marriage and be a good example to his three daughters.

Today, McGraw continues to tour and make hit albums.

In addition to being a best-selling and award-winning recording artist and songwriter, McGraw has since added movie star to the marquee.

In fact, around the time that he starred in an Academy Award-winning film, Blind Slide, he started on the road to recovery. He then followed up with the controversial film Country Strong, which coincidently addressed alcoholism.

As mentioned above, Tim McGraw is three years sober, happily married and is currently touring nationwide with none other than Kenny Chesney, his long-time friend; Grace Potter & the Nocturnals as well as Jake Owen, who opens for McGraw and Chesney.
