Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Calls For Hasty Execution For Drug Convicts

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm, vowed to push for law amendments to have drug convicts put to death 15 days after the Appeal’s Court upholds the death sentence.

According to Phuket Gazette, this proposed amendment to the criminal procedure code would allow them an appeal, but they will be executed 15 days after the Appeal Courts uphold the death sentence.

He believes that if drug convicts are simply jailed, they will mingle with other criminals and could deal drugs from jail.  He said, “Criminal meeting criminal equals arch-criminal.  I won’t listen to the National Human Rights Commission or NGO’s, because I answer to the country and to the public.”  He made these statements after presiding over a press briefing for a large bust.
