School Board Member Jailed For Serving Alcohol To Minors

On Sunday, July 8, in Aurora, Indiana, Terry Luhrsen and his wife Tawnya Luhrsen were arrested, booked and jailed in connection with hosting a party that provided and served alcoholic beverages to minors.

What makes these arrests particularly controversial is that Terry Luhrsen is a current and active South Dearborn District School Board Member.

Arrest records at the Sheriff’s Department of Dearborn County reveal that school board member Terry Luhrsen and his wife, Terry Luhrsen, were booked at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning at the Law Enforcement Center of Dearborn County, also where they were later jailed.

Both were charged with twenty counts of Furnishing Alcoholic Beverages to Minors as well as one count of Neglecting of Dependent. It is alleged that among the teenagers served alcohol at the under- age drinking party were former as well as current students of South Dearborn High School. Nearly twenty teenagers ranging from age sixteen to age nineteen were allegedly discovered to be drinking alcohol at the party.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, at approximately 1:44 a.m. the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call alerting them to the fact that minors were drinking at the home of Terry Luhrsens on Lattire road in Aurora, Indiana. Once there, Sheriff’s deputies witnessed a number of vehicles parked on the front lawn, approximately thirty in total.

Seventy-five minors were discovered – most of them appeared to be very young. They were witnessed inside or around the perimeter of the Luhrsen home. As well, a beer trailer was discovered in addition to coolers that contained alcoholic beverages.

Upon the time that sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home, most of the youth fled the scene into the woods surrounding the perimeter of the property. According to police, twenty teenagers remained, including Terry Luhrsen’s 17 year old daughter.

Meanwhile, since his arrest early Sunday morning, school member Terry speak out. According to statements released by radio station Eagle 99.3 on Terry Luhren’s behalf, he did not furnish alcohol to minors in any way although he admitted that there were some things he could have done better that evening regarding the party. Terry Luhrsen did decline to speak in detail on the matter due to the advice of his attorney. Luhrsen has no further details regarding the arrest and charging of district school board member Terry Luhrsen have been released by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the official website of the Dearborn Community Schools, Terry Luhrsen has been a member of the South Dearborn District School Board since 2004.
