Mike Tyson Sobriety

Mike Tyson may always live on in infamy for biting a portion of Evander Holyfield's ear off in a professional boxing match.

However, what you may not know is that the TKO Champ and Hangover star is a recovering alcoholic and addict.

Yes, you might have guessed that he was under the influence of something when he bit off another human being's ear as if it were a chicken wing! In fact, reportedly he was under the influence of cocaine.

As far back as 1985 following the death of his trainer and surrogate father Cus D'Amato, Mike Tyson has publicly spoken about his drug and alcohol use. "I would get drunk after every fight."

In 2009, during an interview with Oprah, Tyson emotionally broke down as he discussed not only his alcohol and drug-addled past, but his regrets concerning his abusive treatment of women, and even the sudden death of his youngest daughter. Even at that time, Tyson admitted that he was struggling with recovery.

Meanwhile, that same year, Tyson made a cameo appearance, alongside Bradley Cooper, in the Hangover. Tyson let it be known that he had fallen off the wagon. Not only was he actively drinking alcohol and consuming drugs, he made the appearance for the sole purpose of acquiring drug money.

These days Tyson is clean and sober! In fact, Tyson has been clean and sober since 2010.

In addition to maintaining his sobriety, Tyson is starring in his own one man show; not only did he have a very successful run in Las Vegas, but he did equally as well on Broadway!

Currently, Tyson is touring the country, for the next year, in the critically acclaimed play, Undisputed Truth. The play was written by Tyson's wife Kiki Tyson, stars Tyson, and is directed by Spike Lee.

Everyone loves a comeback kid!

From the looks of it, it appears that Tyson has found a creative and healthy way to face the world. Way to go Tyson!

All you newly sober people out there, stick with sobriety and stage your own comeback!
