Daughter of late Senator and once Democratic Presidential-hopeful Robert F. Kennedy was taken into police custody following a highway collision with a tractor-trailer. Kerry Kennedy, ex-wife of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and niece of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was recently involved in a collision in which alcohol was suspected.

A spokesperson for Kennedy has revealed that the 52 year old mother of three daughters and cousin of the late John F. Kennedy Jr. consulted her doctors and they believe the highway collision was the result of a seizure caused by a brain injury she suffered and not the result of sleeping pills, alcohol or illicit drugs.

On Tuesday, July 24 Kennedy entered a plea of not guilty at a court in the town of North Castle in response to a charge of driving while under the influence. Although Kennedy was released from custody, she must return so that state police can take her fingerprints. As well, a proper substance abuse evaluation must be conducted by a substance abuse agency.

It all began on July 11, 2012 when, as mentioned above, Kennedy was arrested after she struck a tractor-trailer in her Lexus on Interstate 684 north of New York City.

According to a police report released on Tuesday, July 24, Kennedy was administered several sobriety tests, all of which she failed. As well, she slurred her speech and swayed back and forth. At the time of the arrest, Kennedy has said that she was en route to the gym to exercise. Some time on the way to the gym she stopped at a traffic light; she has exclaimed she remembers nothing after that.

However, subsequent to the collision she told the arresting officer that she felt erratic and confused and instead of taking her daily thyroid medication perhaps she had taken an Ambien. Yet, she revealed that drug tests that were administered to her later that day did not reveal any prescription pill medication, alcohol or recreational drugs in her system.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for North Castle has said blood and urine tests that the court will rely on have yet to be completed.

Since the arrest, Kennedy revealed that she traveled to Manhattan where she underwent neurological tests. Among tests that doctors conducted was an MRI on Kennedy that revealed that an area of her brain is unusually dense. Apparently the hyper dense area resulted from an injury that Kennedy suffered some time ago.

On August 14, 2012 she must report to the court regarding her DUI charge.
