Heroin Addiction

Grandparents are often the biggest enablers for their addicted grandchildren. Sometimes, I think they do not understand the destructive nature of addiction, and other times I think they are just so dedicated to their grandchildren and they think they are helping them. Many times, the grandparents are the ones with the most denial.

A Utah grandmother is arrested for helping her granddaughter get heroin, and supervising her when using it. According to HeraldExtra.com, when the Springville teenager wanted more heroin, her grandmother would drive her to the drug dealer. Also, as the girl used the drug, the grandmother would "supervise" her.

The police report indicates that the 15-year old granddaughter lives with her grandmother. Police searched the home recently, and the granddaughter told police she uses five to seven balloons of heroin each day. She also told police that her grandmother drives her to buy heroin daily.

When the grandmother was interviewed, she claimed that her granddaughter used heroin to cope with the pain in her knees. She also described the detailed process her granddaughter uses to consume the drugs.

Police arrested the grandmother for endangerment of a child and charges related to drugs to helping her granddaughter use heroin. Her bail is set at $2,500.
