Elton John Sobriety

He is one of the most successful singers, songwriters, authors, actors and entertainers that has ever existed, having sold more than 250 million records, written timeless songs including, "Tiny Dancer" which happens to be my all-time favorite song, and as many of you know, he is a philanthropist who has done more than his fair share to bring money and awareness to some of the most plaguing social issues of our time.

Since the 70's he has garnered innumerable awards, including Grammys, American Music Awards, and even an Oscar for writing the score to the incredibly successful musical, Lion King. He was even knighted by Queen Elizabeth in his native country England.

So, why am I going on and on about this clearly talented individual? Well, he is a self-professed, and proud of it, recovering alcoholic and addict.

Yes, someone clearly as talented, wealthy and successful as Elton John can be effected by drug addiction and alcoholism.

As many of know, addiction spares no one in its path, as it takes hostages irrespective of talent, class, race, education or any other cache.

With that said, after years of struggling with a cocaine and alcohol addiction, Elton John decided enough was enough and chose to get clean and sober! He went to substance abuse rehab, emerged clean and sober, and has since remained that way.

Fast forward to today, Elton is married to his husband of 8 years, with 2 beautiful children, and he is still at the top of the entertainment food chain, with 22 years of sobriety! Very Impressive Elton. Keep up the Impressive work.

By the way, after a very public make up with former enemy and fellow addict Eminem, the two performed "Stan" together at the 2006 Grammy Awards, one of the most viewed Grammy performances of all time!
