Dr. Wayne Dyer has not only been referred to as the father of motivation, but has been listed among the top 100 most influential spiritual leaders that has ever lived. Wow!
He speaks on such topics as consciousness, setting intentions, changing thoughts, and has lectured at some of the most prestigious universities in the world. His lectures are presented to dignitaries and other notable figures, including Oprah Winfrey, and his series of lectures have appeared on such networks as PBS, among others.
Not too long ago he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer, but armed solely with his positive mental thought, he beat it. Today he is in his 7th decade, cancer free, completely healthy and continues to offer his presentations on spirituality.
With that said, life has not always "been a box of chocolates" for Dyer. He is a recovering alcoholic as well, more than 30 years sober.
Not only has Dyer publicly spoken about his own battles with addiction, but he watched as his father, grandfather and uncle succumb to the disease as well. Much of his youth was spent living in an orphanage before Dyer endeavored to change his circumstances by enlisting in the Navy for four years, then attending Wayne State University (my alma mater as well) where he obtained his bachelor and doctorate degrees, respectively.
Despite the appearance that he had overcome his tragic childhood, he was a young man drinking himself to death, twice divorced and getting nowhere fast.
Then he had a moment of stillness; he has not had a a drop of alcohol since! He was struck sober by his higher power. Again, that was more than 30 years ago.
In the words of Dr. Wayne Dyer, change your thoughts, change your life!
