A couple is being sent to state prison after they were caught using the daycare they worked and lived at to package cocaine.

Michele Lynn Berger, 35, owns Michele’s Family Daycare in Allentown, PA. Thursday, Lehigh County Judge Maria Dantos sentenced her to 3 ˝ to 7 years in state prison. Karreen Car, Berger’s boyfriend, was given a 7 to 15 year sentence in state prison.

Both were living at the daycare.

The daycare was raided back in January. According to police, they discovered drugs inside, along with digital scales and material for packaging the drugs.

Even more disturbing, police also found a semiautomatic handgun.

During the raid, Berger’s 13 month old son was present, as well as a 5 year old boy. The couple has three children total, and all three have been taken to live with relatives following the incident.

Both Burger and Carr are now facing serious charges including, multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver, conspiracy charges, and possession of a firearm.

The daycare was state licensed, and provided after school services. According to Anne Bale of the state’s Department of Public Welfare, the daycare was closed immediately following the arrest and the department began moving to revoke the license.

The most disturbing thing about this case is the danger the kids were unknowingly subjected to. Housing a drug operation at a daycare is a bold move.
